How To Organise The Make-Up Dresser!

Hey gorgeous girls. How is the weekend coming along? Sundays have been lazy and slow and boring for me. While I sit here and write down this blog post I'm very cold and my hands are totally freezing! The lowest predicted for today is 7 degrees! That's very low!

Today this blog post is a different one. Not really some review on any product nor any tutorial. Today I am going to write about how I set up my make-up dresser and how do I store my make-up stuff and other related things. Not that I have really enormous collection or something but the little I have it has to be stored in a proper decent way. Messed up dressers literally turn off everyone I'm sure. Like our wardrobes, bookshelves even our dressers have to be organised!

So here I am today, writing a post on How to organise make-up dresser.

Below is a picture showing my make-up dresser:

Things needed:

  • Make-up dresser (Obviously :p)
  • Few plastic containers/boxes
  • Pencil holders/ Spare mugs
  • Table mat/ table cloth.

How to set up your dresser table:

As you can see my dresser in the picture above. It has a glass table with three drawers.
I have covered my dresser table with a table mat. Obviously it's not necessary but to give it a clean, decent look I covered my table. It also helps prevent the glass underneath from getting dusty and dirty often. So it's up to you if you want to cover your dresser table or not. As you can appreciate from the picture above I have just kept three things on the top of the table. Usually people fill up the entire top table with all their make up stuff which is not really bad but this way your dresser looks more neat and gives a sophisticated look. Which is why I have kept my entire make-up and stuff inside the drawers. On the top of the table I have just set up tow mugs one for holding my make-up brushes and the other for holding my comb and hair brush. Also, I have kept my moisturiser bottle on the table for instant use. Since our skin is prone to dryness in this cold chilly weather I decided to keep a moisturiser bottle on top of the table for easy and quick access.

The idea behind keeping minimal things on the dresser table is to protect your make-up products from environmental dust and to avoid cleaning your stuff very often.

How to set up the make-up drawers:

As you all can see in the picture above I have used plastic containers/ boxes to store my make-up. You don't have to go buy these containers, I'm sure all of you would have these at your home. The right place to find these containers is your kitchen! Hehe. These containers shown in the picture are basically the food boxes we get usually during take-aways and deliveries. My mother usually gets them washed and stores them for later use. And that is when I decided to utilise these as storage boxes for my make-up. I picked up around 8-9 small sized plastic containers. You can pick up more if you have a huge make up collection, mine ain't that big :p
Then I categorised the boxes for different purposes;

Box 1: All lip care products like my lip balms.
Box 2: eye cream, night cream, protective body balms
Box 3: lip pencils, eye pencils, eye liners, brow definer pencils, concealers, eye primer, mascaras.
Box 4: make-up sponges, beauty blender.
Box 5: nail colours, hand sanitisers.
Box 6: face primer, foundation, BB creams, tinted moisturisers.
Box 7: necklaces, neck beads, lockets.
Box 8: bobby pins, coloured hair pins,
Box 9: eyeshadow palettes, single eye shadows
Box 10: hand creams, foot creams, foot gel.
Box 11: finger rings, hair clips, other small hair accessories.
Box 12: it's a huge jewellery box. Where I store all my bangles and other jewellery and hair accessories.

Here's a picture of the second drawer of my dresser:

In this half of the second drawer I have stored things bigger in size like my body shop gift boxes, perfumes, body mists, foot spray, body roll on, my sunblock, my watch (contained in the red coloured watch box).

In this half of my second drawer I have stored my entire lipstick collection. I bought this lipstick holder/container for storing my lipsticks, as you can see in the picture above. It's a hard plastic container, easily available in the market everywhere. If you do not want to buy a separate lipstick holder/container that's fine too as you can use a plastic box for storing lipsticks and lip glosses etc.
Also, I have stored my compact powders, highlighters, blushers in a plastic container/box. Also I have kept few of my acne related medical ointments in a corner of this drawer. Also I use a body talc which is stored in this half of my drawer as seen in the picture above.

That's all about my make-up storage and make-up dresser! Hope you guys like the post. (:

My Review:

I love, like actually love the Sheer Love range, it smells very light and floral and totally girly, the mist in itself doesn’t last that long, which is totally normal as the staying power of mist is not that much generally as compared to EDT but when you layer with lotion and butter the fragrance lasts all day. I usually wear it in the morning after shower or at night, and I still smell good and fresh when I wake up or after whole day when I get back. I use lotion all over body and butter on hands, arms, feet and legs. It has this amazing floral scent that lingers all day, its not fruity or overpowering at all. It is very feminine, airy and light which is great for spring and summers. In winter I like using slightly deeper, complex and a bit sweeter scents like love spell or tease.
The lotion is hydrating and gives this instant smoothness to your skin without making it greasy which is a plus point for summers or spring. The butter is not extra greasy too, just the right amount of moisture for skin after a bath when all your natural body oils are stripped off your skin.
Even the mist is infused with conditioning aloe vera and calming chamomile and after spraying it gives the skin a feeling of freshness and hydration, as the mist doesn’t last long, its good to also carry in bag and reapply though out the day for instant freshness.

Price and Availability: I bought Victoria's Secret Sheer Love range from Dubai. You can order Victoria's Secret products online from a Facebook page, Rouge. I got the VS Sheer Love body lotion, body mist and body butter worth 60 dirhams each.

Points in favour:

  1. Body lotion is very hydrating.
  2. Skin becomes velvety soft and smooth after application of the body lotion.
  3. Body lotion does not make skin greasy or oily at all.
  4. Butter is very moisturising and not greasy at the same time.
  5. Body butter and lotion smell amazing.

Points not in favour:

  1. The scent of Body mist does not last long.
  2. Not available at local drug stores. Can be bought online.

Rate: I would rate these 4.5/5.

TBS Exfoliating Bath Gloves.

What does The Body Shop say about this product?

Answer:  These bath gloves increase the lather of your body wash and whisk away dead skin cells.

  1. Remove dead skin cells.
  2. Increase the lather of your body wash.
  3. Leave the skin feeling softer and smoother.

Review:

I never knew about the existence of these gloves until, one day when I saw them on sale on an online facebook page. Although I still wasn't sure about buying them but then I decided to give them a try.
I absolutely LOVE these gloves! They are one of the finest things TBS has come up with.

As the name suggests, these are basically exfoliating gloves. Exfoliation is an important part of our skin care regime, be it facial exfoliation or the whole body exfoliation, we should never skip it! Especially in this dry, cold weather our skin all over the body needs extra care and attention and this is where these bath gloves come in action. Also, exfoliation helps improve our blood circulation which in turn helps in regeneration of new skin cells on our body.

These gloves come in a variety of gorgeous colours. I own two pairs of these gloves, in pink and light green colour. In case you're wondering about the size of these gloves, they are stretchable. That means they can be stretched to fit any hand size with ease. These gloves are made up of nylon woven material. A loop is given on each glove for the purpose of hanging once we are done using them.

How to use these glove?

It's very simple;

  • I wear these gloves on my hands.
  • Put some water on them, enough that they become wet.
  • Then I pour my body wash on one of the gloves and then I rub my hands together, make a good lather and then I use it to exfoliate my skin.
  • After am done using them, I rinse my gloves with warm water and hang them to the wall and let them dry.
  • That's it!

Results:

After the first use I was totally impressed with the results! My skin felt incredibly soft and smooth. Honestly, I couldn't believe my skin it was as soft as a newborn's skin. Initially I used these gloves every alternate day but now I use them twice a week maximum. I think twice a week is fine as over-exfoliation is not good too. These gloves work miraculously. They efficiently remove all the dead and scaly skin. Gradually with multiple use, I feel my skin has become more vibrant, glowing and feels completely fresh.

These gloves are not at all abrasive to the skin. People with sensitive skin can use them too, but they have to take care and make sure they're not harsh on their skin with these gloves on. When using these gloves I believe there is no need of a body scrub. I have never used these gloves with a body scrub. I usually use these with my TBS White Musk Libertine Shower Gel. The amount of lather these gloves make when using with a body wash is not really massive. It's just moderate I would say. But it still works wonders for the skin. The moment you're done using them and you touch your skin you would just fall for these gloves, they work so amazingly. The gloves are very flexible. Having said that these can reach almost all the hard-to-reach areas on your body where the usual bath sponges and bath brushes cannot reach. But since these are on our hands we can flex them to reach all these minute areas too.

I'm not sure if one can use these gloves on their face or not but I recommend to not use them for exfoliation of the face, as face is a sensitive part of our body. And the skin on face is way different than the skin present on other parts of our body. So avoid using them on your face. You can use them on the neck though but make sure you are not very rough. I have been using these gloves for around four five months now and they are still in good quality and shape. I haven't noticed any tearing of the glove material as yet.

Over-all I think these gloves are a must-have to combat dry, rough, scaly skin especially in winters.

Gloves after use hung to the wall to dry.

Price and Availability: The first pair of these gloves I bought online from a Facebook page, Lush Grooming Bargains worth 160pkr ( an amazing bargain, no?) and the second pair I bought from The Body Shop outlet located at the Dolmen City Mall, Karachi worth 290Pkr. Can be bought from any TBS outlet located nation-wide.

Points in favour:

  • Travel friendly packaging.
  • The material of the gloves is not at all irritating to the skin.
  • Gloves are stretchable. Can be stretched to fit any hand size.
  • A loop is given on each glove to hang them after using.
  • Can be washed with water easily.
  • Easy to use.
  • Highly effective.
  • Exfoliates the skin all over the body very efficiently.
  • Good Alternate to a body scrub.
  • Will last for a good 8-9months.
  • They are not at all abrasive to the skin.
  • Good for use in winters.

Points not in favour:

  • Honestly I can't think of any.

Rate: I will rate these 4.9/5.

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick.

Hello beautiful readers! As you all know that we have been celebrating MAC lipstick week on our blog, in which we reviewed a variety of MAC lipstick finishes and colours through-out this week! And now the exciting week comes to an end today with another review of a striking lipcolour by MAC!

MAC Lipstick to be reviewed today is "Velvet Teddy".

Review:

Velvet Teddy is a Matte finish lipstick. This lipstick comes in a black, hard, plastic container with MAC printed on it in silver. There is a hilarious story behind the purchase of Velvet Teddy, most of you would definitely just sit there and laugh at me. The stimulus behind buying MAC's Velvet Teddy was that I found out that this was Priyanka Chopra's favourite/ to-go lipstick! Hehe. I know that sounds lame but I am being honest here. I did not buy this lipstick because I liked the colour but because it was Priyanka's favourite MAC lipstick. Not that she's my favourite female actor but just randomly.

Velvet Teddy is a deep-tone beige as suggested by MAC. If you look carefully at the swatch of the lipstick, it is brownish pink with hints of peach undertones. Now that might sound very weird but that is the best I can explain about this colour. When I used this lipstick it showed more of a Peachy-brown on my brownish-pink lips. There were no signs of pink to be found. And that is when I realised that this colour is not for me and I should have looked up for this colour on Internet before buying. I feared that Velvet Teddy would lie in my makeup drawer forever, un-used. It is then when my sister tried this lip colour and she fell in love with it. It appeared as nude, brown on her lips. Say, two tones darker than nude on her lips. For the reference my sister is NC 40. The peach undertones of this lipstick literally hid all the dark pigmentation on my sisters lips and neutralised them. This is when we both realised that Velvet Teddy suits NC 40's more.

On my Asian skin tone it showed up more of bright peach colour in bright day light, while indoors it shows up more of a brown and for some odd reasons it didn't suit my over all look. For the reference I am NC 30. Browns are for people with more pigmented skin tones and pinks are for people with less pigmented skin tones when one does not want to stand out of the crowd. Peach comes somewhere in between these two. But peach lip colours have never suited my skin tone!

MAC has one of the finest matte finish lipsticks. If I draw a comparison between Color Studio Pure Matte Collection to MAC's matte finish I think the latter is way better in terms of consistency. This being a matte finish does NOT at all dry out my lips nor does it highlight the dry, cracked areas on my lips which is the worst side of a usual matte lipstick.

In my view it is the perfect nude for falls, winters. The longevity of this lipstick is amazing. It stays put on my lips for a good 4-5 hours if I don't eat or drink in this between. Does not smudge too. The consistency of this lipstick is creamy. Does not bleed out if applied with a lip liner. Colour pay off is pretty good too.

Over-all I think this is a must-have lipstick for NC 40's, shows up as a warm brownish peach and neutralises all the pigmentation on the lips.

Price and Availability: Can be bought from Naheed Supermarket, Agha's or EBCO located at The Forum. Worth 2700Pkr.

Points in favour:

  • Travel friendly packaging.
  • Colour pay off is good.
  • Will suit NC 40 skin tones amazingly.
  • Peachy undertones of velvet teddy neutralizes all the pigmentation on the lips.
  • Longest wearing time.
  • Does not dry out lips.
  • Does not highlight dry, cracked areas of lips.
  • To-go colour for Falls, winters.
  • Priyanka Chopra's favourite nude. ( If she happens to be your favourite female actor, hehe).

Points not in favour:

  • Does not suit my NC 30 skin tone that well.
  • Pricey.

Rate: If I have to rate it on behalf of my sister I will rate it 4.8/5. But if I have to rate it based on my experience I will rate 3.5/5.
